BEDFORD — CSX Transportation has begun a widespread project to repair and repave railroad crossings throughout Lawrence County, though local officials are advising residents that an official work schedule is currently unavailable.
Lawrence County Highway Department Superintendent Brian Sowder issued a statement informing the public that the county was not provided an advance itinerary detailing which specific crossings will be affected or closed on given days.
Efforts to gather details directly on-site have yielded few answers. Sowder noted that after speaking with asphalt contractors working at one of the active crossings, workers were unable to provide a schedule for upcoming closures.
The Lawrence County Highway Department is actively attempting to contact CSX representatives to secure an official schedule and establish a point of contact for the project.
Superintendent Sowder assured county residents that the department will release updated closure information to the public as soon as details become available from CSX.
