Pillsbury recalls two bread products over potential glass contamination

NEW YORK — Thousands of cases of Pillsbury frozen bread rolls are being recalled nationwide due to concerns that they may be contaminated with pieces of glass, according to an enforcement report issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The manufacturer, General Mills Sales, Inc., initiated the voluntary recall after identifying the potential presence of foreign material—specifically glass—within the raw dough products.

The recall specifically impacts two varieties of commercial-sized dough products: Pillsbury Bread Rolls (Hard Roll Dough) and Pillsbury Bread Kaiser Rolls.

Scope of Distribution and FDA Classification

The frozen dough cases were shipped to food service distributors and commercial customers across 19 states. The affected distribution area includes: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.

The FDA formally designated the action as a Class II recall. Under federal guidelines, a Class II classification means that exposure to or use of the recalled product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, though the probability of serious health outcomes is considered remote.
