MITCHELL — A Mitchell woman was arrested after police say she assaulted another person and damaged a vehicle during an altercation in June.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Whitney Daugherty, Lacey Brandt, 32, was arrested on preliminary charges of battery and criminal mischief.
Daugherty reported deputies were dispatched at about 1:08 a.m. June 18 to a residence in the 2800 block of Earl Road in Mitchell following a report of a battery.
According to the affidavit, the reported victim told police that Brandt assaulted her during an argument at the residence. The woman later met with Daugherty at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department to provide a statement.
The affidavit states the woman reported she had been at the residence with Brandt and another person when an argument began. She told police Brandt became upset, and an altercation followed.
According to the affidavit, the woman said Brandt pushed her down a set of deck stairs before getting on top of her and striking her multiple times. She reported that two people intervened and separated the two women.
The woman also told police Brandt damaged her vehicle’s tire with a knife during the incident. She reported the tire remained inflated but was damaged.
Daugherty reported observing injuries on the woman, including a swollen and bruised eye, a bruised area on her forehead, and scratches on her neck. Photos of the reported injuries and vehicle damage were collected as part of the investigation.
The affidavit states Brandt also reported a battery incident involving the woman, which was documented in a separate case.
Brandt was arrested on the preliminary charges of battery and criminal mischief. Formal charges will be determined by the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office.
