Lawrence County Independent Schools approves 2026-2027 board meeting calendar

BEDFORD The Lawrence County Independent Schools charter board has officially approved its public meeting schedule for the 2026-2027 school year, formalizing the dates when local school policy and governance decisions will take place.

According to school administration officials, the governing board finalized and approved the calendar during its summer session on June 25. Under the newly established guidelines, standard monthly sessions will consistently begin at 6 p.m.

Following a long-standing local tradition, regular meetings are scheduled for the final Thursday of each month. However, school administrators noted that two key modifications were made to the standard cycle this year to prevent direct conflicts with major national holidays.

The November and December sessions will both be pushed forward by one week. The November meeting is set for Nov. 19 to circumvent Thanksgiving week, while the December meeting will take place on Dec. 17 ahead of the winter holiday break.

All other months, spanning from the initial session on Aug. 27 through the final scheduled meeting on July 29, 2027, will adhere strictly to the final-Thursday framework.

School officials emphasized that while this calendar represents the fixed, approved baseline for the year, changing administrative demands may necessitate additional assemblies. Should the board require special or executive sessions, leadership will issue public alerts in accordance with statutory guidelines.
