BEDFORD — The East Lawrence Water Authority has officially published its 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), providing residents with a comprehensive evaluation of their tap water.

The report covers mandatory testing conducted from January 1 through December 31, 2025, detailing the utility’s ongoing efforts to supply safe, reliable drinking water to the community. Customers can now view the complete documentation directly on the utility’s official website at eastlawrencewater.org.
The East Lawrence Water Authority operates under Public Water Supply ID IN5247002 and provides purchased surface water to its customer base. The primary source water originates from Bedford City Utilities (PWS ID IN5247001).
Additionally, the testing data references reseller contaminants associated with infrastructure tied to the Jackson County Water Utility.
Key Testing Data and Full Compliance
The federal government and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforce strict safety thresholds, known as Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL), to ensure public health safety. The 2025 data show that East Lawrence’s water parameters remain comfortably within safe federal margins, resulting in zero health effects violation notices for the utility.
A summary of the notable 2025 testing parameters includes:
Lead and Copper (2023 Testing Cycle)
- Lead: The 90th percentile recorded was 1.2 parts per billion (ppb), significantly below the federal Action Level (AL) of 15 ppb. Zero local testing sites exceeded the action level.
- Copper: The 90th percentile registered at 0.06 parts per million (ppm), well under the federal Action Level of 1.3 ppm.
Disinfection and Byproducts
- Chlorine: Used as a water additive to control microbial growth, chlorine levels maintained a running annual average of 1 pm, within a safe operating range of 0.4 to 1.7 ppm (Federal limit is 4 ppm).
- Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM): By-products of water chlorination measured at a maximum Locational Running Annual Average (LRAA) of 39.1 ppb at the Leesville Road testing point and 43.2 ppb at the Tunnelton Road point. Both sites remained well below the maximum safety threshold of 80 ppb.
- Total Haloacetic Acids (HAA5): Measured at a maximum LRAA of 12.8 ppb at Leesville Road and 12.3 ppb at Tunnelton Road, far below the federal limit of 60 ppb.
Reseller Infrastructure Update
Because East Lawrence purchases its surface water from neighboring municipal systems, the report must legally disclose any regulatory flags raised by its suppliers.
During the reporting period, the supplier listed under system code IN5236003 incurred a minor administrative Lead Consumer Notice reporting violation covering the compliance timeframe of January 1, 2024, to January 22, 2025. However, there were no secondary health effects or contamination violations associated with the water transferred to East Lawrence.
Lead Safety and Pipe Inventory
While testing demonstrates safe levels at the municipal treatment level, water authorities emphasize that lead exposure occurs primarily through home plumbing fixtures and older service lines.
To comply with evolving federal standards, the utility has completed a service line inventory, which maps out existing pipe materials. Customers can review this active inventory database to check their property status online at pws-ptd.120wateraudit.com/eastlawrencein.
Public Questions and Board Meetings
For customers experiencing variations in taste, color, or odor, the utility notes that these aesthetic changes are often caused by naturally occurring minerals and do not inherently indicate a health risk.
Residents who have questions or require further details regarding the 2025 water analysis can contact East Lawrence Water Representative Eric Thomas directly at 812-279-9562.
Additionally, community members are welcome to attend the East Lawrence Water Authority’s monthly board meetings, which take place on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
