The Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting

BLOOMINGTON — Authorities are searching for a known male suspect who allegedly opened fire on an occupied vehicle following a verbal dispute on North Summit Street.

The Monroe County Central Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple urgent 911 calls from residents reporting that an individual had fired multiple rounds into a white GMC SUV before fleeing the area on foot.

Patrol officers and detectives rushed to the 1000 block of North Summit Street to secure the scene.

According to investigators, the gunfire erupted following a heated verbal altercation between the suspect and the driver of the SUV. The suspect pulled a firearm and discharged approximately seven to eight rounds directly into the vehicle.

At the time of the shooting, the SUV was heavily occupied. Inside were three adults and four children.

Miraculously, despite the number of rounds fired into the frame of the vehicle, no injuries were reported by any of the seven occupants.

The suspect managed to flee the immediate vicinity before officers arrived and remains at large. Police noted that the shooter is known to the victims, and this was not a random act of violence.

Detectives are actively working the case, interviewing neighborhood witnesses, and canvassing the area to review available residential and commercial surveillance footage.

As the investigation remains ongoing, local authorities are asking for the community’s help in locating the suspect.

Anyone who witnessed the altercation, heard the gunfire, or has relevant security camera footage is strongly encouraged to contact Detective Kevin Frank at 812-349-3322.

No further information is available for release from the department at this time.
