Deputy Chris Myers named Indiana Region 11 School Resource Officer of the Year

MONTGOMERY — The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has announced that Deputy Chris Myers has been named the Indiana Region 11 School Resource Officer (SRO) of the Year.

Deputy Myers serves as the dedicated School Resource Officer at Barr-Reeve Community Schools, where he plays a central role in maintaining a secure, positive learning environment for students across the district.

The award is presented by the Indiana School Resource Officers Association (INSROA), which divides the state into distinct geographic regions to recognize outstanding law enforcement professionals working within local school systems. Region 11 represents a competitive territory spanning multiple counties across southwestern Indiana. The annual honor highlights SROs who go well beyond basic security protocols by successfully building meaningful relationships with youth, mentoring students, and implementing proactive safety initiatives.

In an official statement, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office praised Myers’ ongoing contributions to local education, stating that the award directly reflects his “dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the students and community he serves.”

As an SRO, Deputy Myers’ daily responsibilities bridge the gap between law enforcement and education. His presence at the Barr-Reeve campus provides the school with an immediate first responder for emergency situations, while also allowing him to serve as a guest speaker on safety topics, counsel students in need, and collaborate with administration to routinely update school safety plans.

Barr-Reeve Community Schools administration and local community members have joined the sheriff’s office in celebrating the achievement, noting that the distinction highlights the overall success of the partnership between Daviess County law enforcement and local school districts.
