WHITLEY COUNTY – An Indiana State Police Trooper was patrolling on US 30 in Whitley County when he attempted to stop a white Chevrolet car for speeding.
After the lights and sirens came on, the driver fled and led police in pursuit through Whitley and Allen Counties, driving dangerously and erratically.
At one point, the pursuit made its way back into Whitley County, where deputies deployed a tire deflation device that effectively deflated the tires on the vehicle.
The driver continued to flee in the vehicle. The car eventually ran off the road into a field in the area of CR350 East near CR100 South. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
The driver was identified as Tavin Miller, 30, of Bellwood, IL. He was charged with the following:
- Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle – Level 6 felony
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon – Level 6 felony
- Reckless driving – Class C misdemeanor
- Criminal mischief – Class B misdemeanor
Whitley County Sheriff’s Department assisted in bringing the pursuit to a safe and controlled conclusion, without injury to the public or involved officers. We appreciate the cooperative efforts that contributed to the successful resolution.
