BEDFORD — Families looking to give their children a strong start before kindergarten will soon have a new option in Lawrence County as Tiny Pillars Preschool prepares to open its doors this August inside the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County.

Designed for children ages 4 to 5, Tiny Pillars Preschool offers a kindergarten readiness program focused on helping young learners build the academic, social, and emotional skills needed for success in school and beyond.
Classes will meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The program combines early literacy instruction, foundational math concepts, and social-emotional learning through hands-on, engaging activities tailored to young children.
Program leaders say the goal is to provide a nurturing environment where children can develop confidence, independence, and a love of learning before entering kindergarten.
“Every big journey starts with a strong foundation,” organizers said. “From learning letters and numbers to building friendships and independence, Tiny Pillars is designed to help children make a smooth and successful transition into kindergarten.”
The preschool’s mission is to provide a developmentally appropriate environment where children can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Through play-based exploration and meaningful interactions, staff work to support each child’s unique development while partnering with families throughout the learning process.
Children enrolled in the program will work toward a variety of kindergarten readiness milestones. These include recognizing and writing their names, identifying letters and sounds, counting to 20 or higher, recognizing numbers and shapes, developing fine motor skills such as using scissors and holding a pencil correctly, and building important social skills like following routines, sharing, problem-solving, and communicating respectfully with others.

Leading the classroom will be Loren Proffitt, who brings more than six years of kindergarten teaching experience and holds a PK-6 teaching license.
According to program information, Proffitt’s background in early childhood education and kindergarten readiness provides a strong foundation for helping students develop the skills they need before entering elementary school.
She emphasizes creating a nurturing and structured learning environment where children feel supported while learning the academic and social skills necessary for success in kindergarten.
To be eligible for enrollment, children must be at least 4 years old by Aug. 1, 2026. Students must also be potty trained and able to independently manage basic self-care tasks, including dressing and undressing, using the restroom, washing their hands, putting on and removing simple clothing such as jackets and shoes, and communicating their needs effectively.
Enrollment is currently open, and organizers note that available spaces are limited and filling quickly ahead of the August opening.
