SEYMOUR – Ruler Foods is celebrating National Donut Day on June 5 by giving back to customers with a special in-store giveaway. The first 50 customers at each Ruler Foods store will receive a free 6-count package of Bakery Fresh Glazed Donuts.
Doors open at 8:00 a.m., and customers are encouraged to arrive early while supplies last.
“National Donut Day is a fun and simple way to bring a little joy to our customers,” said Amy McCormick, Communications Manager at Ruler Foods. “We’re excited to celebrate by offering a sweet treat on us and welcoming customers into our stores to start their day.”
In addition to the in-store giveaway, Ruler Foods invites customers who enjoy baking to try making their own donuts at home using affordable ingredients available in-store.
If you’d like to try making your own, here’s a simple recipe to get started:
STRAWBERRY GLAZED DONUTS
- 3 TBSP butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 cups flour
- 1 TBSP baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3–4 cups canola oil for frying
Fresh Strawberry Glaze
- 6–7 strawberries, pureed
- 5 TBSP melted butter
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
Begin heating 3–4 cups of canola oil on the stovetop over medium-low heat.
Mix the butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time, mixing between each addition. Stir in milk and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients and mix until well combined. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. Lightly flour a surface and transfer the dough. Knead for 2–3 minutes, adding small amounts of flour as needed until manageable.
Roll the dough to about 1/2″ thickness. Cut into donut shapes using two biscuit cutters and set aside.
Once oil reaches 325–330°F, fry 3–4 donuts at a time for 2–3 minutes per side. Donut holes will cook faster. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and cool slightly.
Whisk glaze ingredients together, then dip donuts to coat. Serve warm for the best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
