SPENCER COUNTY — A multi-agency narcotics investigation spanning several months culminated Wednesday afternoon with the highway arrest of a Petersburg man and the seizure of trafficking quantities of methamphetamine and controlled substances.
Trevor C. Adkins, 32, is being held without bond in the Spencer County Jail following a coordinated traffic stop on US 231. He faces a mountain of felony charges across multiple jurisdictions.

The investigation was launched in January 2026 by the Drug Enforcement Section of the Indiana State Police (ISP). Working alongside the United States Postal Service, detectives began tracking the alleged distribution of illicit narcotics moving through southwest Indiana.
By late May, investigators had secured enough evidence to obtain a Pike County arrest warrant for Adkins, explicitly targeting his alleged involvement in dealing methamphetamine and other heavily restricted controlled substances.
On Wednesday, May 27, troopers and local officers tracked Adkins as he traveled through Spencer County. Members of the arrest team intercepted his black 2025 Buick SUV on US 231, executing a traffic stop to serve the active Pike County warrant.
During the roadside encounter, troopers noted immediate indicators of ongoing criminal activity. A narcotics K-9 team was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff around the exterior of the SUV, yielding a positive alert for drugs inside the vehicle.
A subsequent physical search of the Buick turned up suspected marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia. Furthermore, officers reported that Adkins displayed visible signs of physical impairment behind the wheel. He was transported to Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City for clinical chemical testing before being booked into jail.
The operation expanded later Wednesday evening as state police investigators executed a court-authorized search warrant at Adkins’ primary residence in Petersburg, Indiana. Inside the home, authorities recovered:
- Approximately 3 ounces of suspected marijuana
- Concentrated marijuana wax
- THC vape cartridges
- Assorted distribution paraphernalia
Over the entire five-month duration of the probe, state and federal agents successfully intercepted and seized massive quantities of street-level drugs tied to the investigation, including approximately four ounces of suspected methamphetamine and roughly 300 controlled-substance pills—which laboratory weights broke down as 224 grams of suspected Xanax and 14 grams of suspected Adderall.
ISP officials emphasized that the success of the operation relied heavily on interagency cooperation to disrupt the distribution of dangerous narcotics within rural Indiana communities.
Adkins faces separate, compounding charges in both counties where the offenses occurred:
Pike County Warrant Charges:
- Dealing Methamphetamine – Level 2 Felony (2 Counts)
- Dealing a Schedule IV Controlled Substance – Level 3 Felony
- Dealing a Schedule II Controlled Substance – Level 5 Felony (2 Counts)
- Dealing a Schedule IV Controlled Substance – Level 6 Felony (2 Counts)
- Possession of Marijuana – Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
Spencer County Enforcement Charges:
- Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OVWI) – Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of Marijuana – Class B Misdemeanor
- Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
Adkins is currently held without bond on the local Spencer County charges while awaiting formal extradition back to Pike County to face the primary felony dealing counts.
Investigating personnel include ISP Master Troopers Doug Francis, Paul Stolz, and Trey Lytton; Troopers Connor Giesler and Kayla Denk-Mundy.
Assisting agencies include the U.S. Marshals Service, United States Postal Service, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
