Chicago murder suspect apprehended on I-69 in Daviess County

WASHINGTON, Ind. A multi-agency law enforcement operation on Interstate 69 near Washington led to the successful capture of a Chicago fugitive wanted on a murder charge.

Brandon D. Jones, 37, of Chicago, Illinois, was taken into custody on Thursday following a coordinated effort by the Indiana State Police (ISP), the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, and the Washington Police Department.

The operation began after southern Indiana law enforcement agencies received an emergency tip warning them that a wanted murder suspect was traveling south through the area on the interstate.

Local authorities immediately mobilized to locate the vehicle.

ISP Senior Trooper Kaitlyn Greene successfully spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling along I-69 near the Washington exit.

To ensure a safe apprehension, troopers and local deputies temporarily blocked all traffic lanes on I-69. Master Trooper Jarrod Lents executed the high-risk traffic stop, and Jones was arrested without further incident.

The interstate was reopened to regular traffic shortly after the suspect was securely in custody.

Following his arrest, Jones was transported to the Daviess County Jail. Jail records indicate he is currently being held without bond on a felony murder warrant.

Because the underlying crime occurred in Illinois, Jones will remain in the Indiana facility pending an extradition hearing, which will clear the way for transfer back into the custody of the Chicago Police Department to face formal charges.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
