Charges filed against Sharod L. Grafton in the shooting of Deputy Jon Samuelson

LAPORTE COUNTY – Detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division, Lowell Post, have concluded their initial investigation into the shooting of LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Samuelson. The findings have been submitted to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, and charges have been approved by Prosecutor Sean Fagan.

The approved charges against Sharod L. Grafton, 22, from Chicago, IL, include attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, battery against a public safety officer, a Level 5 felony, and auto theft, a Level 6 felony.

As this matter is now part of an active criminal court process, the Indiana State Police will not provide further comment regarding the investigation. Any additional inquiries should be directed to LaPorte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan.
