BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Tuesday evening on felony invasion of privacy and resisting law enforcement charges following an incident involving an alleged protective order violation on the city’s north side, according to an affidavit filed in Lawrence County.

According to the affidavit, Bedford Police Sgt. Nicholas Crulo responded at approximately 7:25 p.m., May 19, to the 1300 block of R Street on a report of a protective order violation.
Police said Sgt. Crulo located Edwin D. Busch near the intersection of 15th and O streets. While attempting to advise Busch of his rights and place him under arrest, Busch allegedly pulled his arm away and refused commands to place his hands behind his back, according to the affidavit.
The affidavit states Sgt. Crulo took Busch to the ground in order to gain control and forcibly removed one of Busch’s arms from underneath his body before placing him in handcuffs. Officer Ratcliff arrived during the incident and assisted in getting Busch to his feet and into a patrol vehicle.
Police reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Busch. The affidavit states Busch refused to submit to a preliminary breath test both at the scene and later at the Lawrence County Jail.
According to the affidavit, Major Swanson spoke with the complainant, who told police Busch had been at the residence for parenting time before allegedly becoming erratic and saying “crazy stuff” to the child. The complainant reportedly told Busch to leave the residence. Busch allegedly threw objects at the home before leaving the area, though the complainant could not identify what was thrown.
Court documents state Busch has a prior conviction for invasion of privacy involving the same complainant.
Busch was booked into the Lawrence County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement by force and invasion of privacy with a prior conviction, a Level 6 felony.
As in all criminal cases, charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
