Bennie Wayne Hodges, 91, of Mitchell, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at his residence.
Born September 6, 1934, in the Mt. Horeb area of Orleans, he was the son of Wayne and Neva (Goodpaster) Hodges. He married Freida Janette Hawk, the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Terry) Hawk, on December 5, 1952 by Otto Duncan. Bennie was baptized into the Christian faith in Fishing Creek on his son’s farm.
Bennie was a 1952 graduate of Orleans High School. He worked for RCA from 1952-1959 and was a Mitchell School bus driver from 1959-1968. He was a Standard Oil Driver from 1960 to 1968 and then an agent for Standard Oil from 1968 to 1975, when he, his wife, and son formed Hodges Oil Co. They sold the business in 1977. He later worked for Miller Pipeline, Burton Trucking, CPI Supply and Gerkin Farms.
Surviving are his wife, Freida Janette Hodges of Mitchell; son, Frank (Carolyn Gentry) Hodges of Mitchell; grandchildren, John (Jessica Jones) Hodges of Shoals and Erin (Ethan) Hodges Ellermann of Vincennes; and great-grandchildren, Carson Hodges, Kinsley Hodges, Zena Hodges, Kori Jo Ellermann, Adley Sue Ellermann, and Jolee Jean Ellermann.
His parents; infant daughter, Cathy Ann Hodges; and a brother at birth, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
