BNL finishes second in Unified sectional

BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence finished second in the IHSAA sectional during Unified track action on Saturday.

The Stars totaled 118 points in the 12-team field. Columbus North won the team title with 125, while Whiteland was third with 110. The top three teams advanced to the regional.

”I am proud of the kids,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “Every one of them did what they needed to do to get out. The kids decided that they didn’t want to be finished with the season yet.

”We had several kids hit some personal bests, and others did well with enough to place where they needed to be. Nick Hunsaker had a big throw in the shot put to jump seeds to win his flight, while Nik Johnson tied his personal best in the long jump to move into second place from his seventh place seed.

“The kids really came together as a team. Now we wait to see who we will see next week.”

BNL will compete in the regional at Franklin on May 30.
