Vera “Jeanette” Turpin

April 2, 1935 – May 18, 2026

Vera “Jeanette” Turpin, 91, of Mitchell, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026.

Born April 2, 1935, in Medora, IN, she was the daughter of William and Jesse (Flynn) Meadows. She married John Earl Turpin on August 22, 1949, and he preceded her in death. Memaw lived her life as a homemaker. She was a member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church, the Wesleyan Women, as well as the Silver Sneakers. Memaw loved sewing and was famous for her pies. She never missed an episode of Survivor and adored her family and grandchildren.

Surviving to cherish Memaw’s memory are her children, Lana (Bill) Miller, Rita (Terry) East, John (Angela) Turpin, Jeanetta (Kevin) Anderson, Stormi George, and Leatha (Guy) Thurman; one son-in-law, Albert Abel; fifteen grandchildren, Larry, Laura, Phyllis, George III, Samantha, Brandy, Javin, Chad, Chance, Gretchen, Brooke, Tyler, Jennifer, Guy Jr., and Whitney; forty-two great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kay Kimmel and Brenda Balsover; along with several nieces and nephews

Memaw was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jesse (Flynn) Meadows; her husband, John Earl Turpin; one daughter, Hazel; four grandchildren, George, Holli Candi, and Mason; two sisters, Joan and Pat; and one brother, Jack.

Funeral Services for Memaw will be held at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Knott Cemetery in Mitchell, IN. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:0 p.m., also at the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. In honor of Jeanette, the family asks everyone to wear red, her favorite color.
