Indiana State Police investigating fatal crash following pursuit in Wabash County

WABASH COUNTY – On May 16, 2026, the Indiana State Police was requested by the Wabash Police Department to investigate a fatal crash that occurred during a vehicle pursuit.

Preliminary investigation indicates that shortly before 3:00 a.m., officers with the Wabash Police Department attempted to stop a motorcycle after the rider disregarded a red light. The motorcycle failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, the motorcycle traveled off the roadway near the intersection of Miami Street and Walter Street in Wabash. The motorcycle then struck a utility pole before coming to rest.

Despite lifesaving efforts by law enforcement officers and other first responders, the rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The rider’s name will be released by the Wabash County Coroner’s Office.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash Police Department, Wabash County Coroner’s Office, and Wabash Fire and EMS.
