Mitchell man arrested after allegedly breaking into home in violation of a restraining order

MITCHELL A local man is facing felony charges after police say he broke into a residence where he was legally barred from entering due to an active protection order.

Kaden M. Williams, 35, was arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Mitchell Police Department following a report of an unwanted person at a home on South 5th Street.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Colonel Jacob Kuhlman, officers were dispatched to the 501 S. 5th Street address at approximately 2:12 p.m. The caller reported that Williams had been “camping out” on the porch without permission and refused to leave the premises.

Upon arrival, Colonel Kuhlman observed a large green “army” style duffle bag on the porch near the front door, though Williams was not immediately visible. The officer also noted multiple “No Trespassing” signs posted on the porch and the backyard fence, both of which were clearly visible from the roadway.

After initially being unable to locate the suspect, Colonel Kuhlman staged his vehicle nearby to wait for Williams’ return. At approximately 3:15 p.m., the officer observed Williams exiting the front door of the residence onto the porch with a dog.

When questioned by the officer, Williams reportedly admitted that he did not live at the residence. According to the affidavit, when asked if he had climbed into the house through the back, Williams replied, “yeah”.

Following the arrest, police discovered that a valid protection order was in place on behalf of a resident at the address. The order is set to remain in effect until June 24, 2026.

Kaden Williams was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and is facing the following charges: residential entry, invasion of privacy, and criminal trespass.

The Mitchell Police Department confirmed that photos of the trespassing signs and a copy of the active protection order have been submitted as evidence in the case.
