Man pleads guilty in November 2024 fatal hit and run

SEYMOUR — A Seymour man has formally pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of an 87-year-old man in late 2024.

Omar Donald, 55, entered a guilty plea this week for leaving the scene of a fatal accident in November 2024. The charge follows an investigation into a collision in Seymour.

Omar Donald

According to investigators, Donald was the driver of a vehicle that struck Ronald D. Jarvis, 87, of Seymour, and subsequently fled the scene without providing aid or contacting emergency services. The incident occurred during the evening hours of November 2, 2024, and sparked a multi-agency investigation to locate the driver and the vehicle involved.

Jarvis was leaving Larrison’s Diner at Tipton and Chestnut Streets when he was struck by Donald’s vehicle. Police found Jarvis unresponsive. He was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital. He died on November 4, 2024.

Ronald D. Jarvis

Jarvis was a United States Navy veteran and retired from Cummins after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he volunteered for Provisions Food Pantry in Seymour.

Local law enforcement eventually identified Donald as the suspect. He was later charged with the felony offense of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

By pleading guilty, Donald admitted to the allegations regarding his involvement in the collision and his failure to remain at the scene as required by Indiana law.

Circuit Court Judge Richard Poynter will sentence Donald on May 26th at 2:30 p.m.
