BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence hosted a party for its lone senior. Columbus East crashed it.

The Olympians won the top four spots in the lineup on Monday while recording a 4-1 victory over the Stars, who honored single senior Emma Conover with the usual components – sweets, presents, balloons. Everything but a win. That cannot be gifted.

BNL (0-10) has battled through growing pains, with three freshmen and two sophomores in the five-court lineup. Conover, who is on her way to Indiana University to study genetic counseling, has learned some lessons during the absence of team success.

”To be patient,” Conover said. “To preserve. It’s been hard.”

The Stars posted their lone win at No.2 doubles. Claire Edwards and Emma Voris rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Melani Jimenez and Yeidi Arellano.

“Our doubles came away with a great win,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “Claire and Emma are continuing to work well together and communicate. They played smart.

BNL’s Claire Edwards smacks a winner during action at No.2 doubles.

”There were some frustrations from some of our players, but we have to shake it off. We have two more matches this week, so we have to move on and try to make every match better than the last.”

East swept the singles as Lauren Degner defeated Elizabeth Miskuf 6-0, 6-1 at No.1, Olivia DeBarro topped Conover 6-2, 6-0 at No.2, and Bruna Carreira clipped Bailey Fisher 6-1, 6-2 at No.3.

At No.1 doubles, East’s Bree Hatcher and Addison Huber fought past Jada Key and Forum Patel 6-3, 6-3.

BNL will visit Seymour on Tuesday.
