COLUMBUS – Columbus East erupted offensively while bashing Bedford North Lawrence 17-1 in five innings during high school softball action on Friday night.
The Olympians (9-8) exploded for six runs in the first inning, six more in the second, and five in the third en route to the mercy-rule triumph.
The Stars (5-14) scored first in the first as Sara Williams was hit by a pitch, Macee Nicholson reached on an error, and Karsyn Coleman drove in the run with a ground out. But that would be the extent of the BNL attack as the Stars managed only two hits.
East scored six in the first with only two hits, with a bases-loaded error allowing three runs. In the second, two errors, a bases-loaded walk and a hit batter powered the Olympians to a 12-1 lead. In the third, Thaise Jessup blasted a grand slam.
The Olympians took advantage of seven hits (Jessup had two, with five RBIs), six walks, four errors and four hit batters. The Stars allowed 9 unearned runs. East hurler Jacque Boroughs struck out seven.
BNL will host Living Water Homeschool on Monday.
