BEDFORD – The City of Bedford Board of Zoning Appeals has scheduled a public hearing for next week to consider a variance request that would allow for the construction of a new residence on the city’s south side.
The meeting is set for Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the City Concourse, located at 1402 H Street.
The primary item on the agenda is a request from Jeff and Ann Weddle regarding their property at 2513 L Street. The parcel is currently zoned R-3 (Medium Density Residential).
The petitioners are seeking a variance to reduce the required side-yard setback. Under current city zoning codes for R-3 districts, a minimum setback of 8 feet is required; however, the Weddles are requesting a reduction to 5 feet to accommodate the construction of a new home.
The board will evaluate whether the request meets the legal criteria for a variance, which typically involves demonstrating that the standard regulations pose a “practical difficulty” due to unique characteristics of the land.
In an effort to maintain transparency and community engagement, the city will provide multiple ways for the public to observe the proceedings:
- In-Person: City Concourse, 1402 H Street, Bedford.
- Facebook Live: www.facebook.com/bedford.in.gov
- YouTube Stream: www.youtube.com/@CityofBedford-812/streams
The session will open with the approval of minutes from the previous meeting held on March 24, 2026. Following the public hearing and discussion on the L Street project, the board will move toward adjournment.
