Dennis W. Motsinger, 74, of Seymour, IN, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Seymour, IN. Born March 22, 1952, in Seymour, IN, he was the son of Frank Edward and Maxine (Gaiter) Motsinger.
Dennis was a 1970 graduate of Seymour High School. While in high school, he worked as a manager for Burger Chef in Seymour, and after graduation, helped to open and manage the Burger Chef in Madison, IN. He later proudly served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War for a tour of duty as a military policeman and then continued serving in the Air Force National Guard. Soon after his military service, Dennis went on to work for Farm Bureau Insurance as a claims adjuster and built a career there in claims and litigation management, retiring in 2012 after more than thirty years in a career that he loved. While working full-time at Farm Bureau and supporting his young family, he continued his education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology from Indiana University.
In 1979, Dennis met the love of his life, and on October 12, 1979, he married Darlene Rae (Bowling) Burns at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, IN. They have been happily married for more than forty-six years.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the VFW in Seymour. Dennis was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years who enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping and playing cards with his friends. His love of gardening led him to study and achieve the title of Master Gardener. He loved his country and enjoyed studying its rich history and the civil responsibility of all citizens. As a committed family man, he particularly enjoyed vacationing with his wife and family, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He lived his life with consistency and honor and a deep commitment to his faith, his work and career, and most importantly to his family. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Darlene Motsinger of Seymour, IN; sons, Asher Burns of Seymour, IN; Eric (Jennifer) Motsinger of Seymour, IN; his grandchildren, Kaylie Burns; Jacobi Burns; Hannah Burns; Zoe Croquart; Mina Croquart; Lillian Motsinger and Amaris Motsinger; two brothers, Tim (Vicki) Motsinger of Indianapolis, IN; Tom (Pam) Motsinger of Seymour, IN; a sister, Connie (Ralph) Frazier of Henryville, IN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maxine Motsinger.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg, Rev. Philip Bloch, and Rev. William Fredstrom officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., also at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour.
