ELNORA — Town officials have issued a notice to utility customers about scheduled maintenance that may affect water clarity in the coming days. Routine hydrant flushing is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 20, through Friday, April 24.
Hydrant flushing is a critical maintenance procedure designed to ensure fire hydrants are operational and to remove mineral deposits and sediment from the water distribution system.
While the water remains safe for use, town officials warn that the process may cause:
- Temporary Discoloration: Water may appear yellow, brown, or reddish.
- Sediment: Small particles may be visible in the water lines.
- Pressure Changes: Minor fluctuations in water pressure may occur while crews are working nearby.
Action Steps for Homeowners
To clear any buildup from residential plumbing after flushing has been completed on their street, residents are advised to:
- Run Cold Water: Use a high-volume fixture, such as a bathtub, shower, or outdoor hydrant, to flush out the lines.
- Clear All Fixtures: Continue running water through faucets and appliances until it runs clear.
- Check Laundry: Avoid washing white or light-colored clothes until the water clarity has returned to normal to prevent staining.
Town officials expressed their gratitude for the community’s patience as they perform these necessary infrastructure upgrades. Residents with specific concerns regarding their water quality during this period are encouraged to contact the town utility office.
