Miners dig out 3-2 win over Stars

Elizabeth Miskuf and the Stars posted a win at No.1 doubles, but BNL dropped a 3-2 decision at Linton.

LINTON – Linton won the lower courts while clipping Bedford North Lawrence 3-2 during girls high school tennis action on Thursday.

The Stars posted wins at No.1 singles and No.1 doubles, but the Miners dropped only five games in the other three matches.

Emma Conover recorded an impressive 6-1, 6-3 singles victory over Aubrey Neal. In doubles, Emma Voris and Elizabeth Miskuf conquered Corinna Brown and Grace Bredeweg 6-2, 6-4.

“Emma was playing her game and killing it,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “She did a great job moving her opponent around the court. Emma (Voris) and Elizabeth continued to show their skills at both the net and the back line. They were hustling after every point and wearing down their opponents.

“All of the girls had close games, we are getting better and improving every single match. Overall this was a great match, but we need to continue working on our mental game and understanding our opponent’s weaknesses.”

The Miners took the lower singles as Shaylie Killian topped Jada Key 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, while Avery Gamble clipped Abi Bruner 6-0, 6-1 at No.3. At No.2 doubles, Hannah Bredeweg and Kinley Carmichael rolled past Claire Edwards and Bailey Fisher 6-2, 6-1.

The Stars (0-6) will visit Loogootee on Tuesday.
