BERNE – On Saturday, April 11, 2026, just after 10:45 p.m., a Berne Police officer responding to a call regarding a suspicious person was involved in a collision with an individual who was lying unconscious in the roadway.
The initial investigation indicates that the individual, who was wearing dark clothing, was lying partially in the roadway on Hendricks Street near Wind Ridge Trail when the officer, who was actively searching for the reported suspicious person, struck the unconscious individual.
As soon as the officer realized what had occurred, the officer immediately requested medical assistance and began providing aid until additional help arrived.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Due to the early stage of the investigation, the identities of both the injured individual and the involved officer are not being released at this time.
