LAWRENCE COUNTY – Lawrence County Treasurer Penny Cobb informs us that the property tax statements are being mailed on Monday, April 13th.
The spring installment is due on May 11, 2026.

The Treasurer’s Office will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for those who would like to pay taxes in person. The office will be closed on May 5th for election day. The Assessors, Auditors, and Recorders’ Offices will also be closed on this date.
While not required, bringing your tax statements will speed up processing. The county will accept cash, checks, or money orders in the office. You may pay by credit or debit by calling the toll-free number below or using the tax payment website.
Current tax and credit card payment information may be found online. Credit and debit card payments
are not accepted in the office.
Questions regarding your assessed value and available appeal options for this tax year or next tax year should be directed to the Assessor’s Office at 812-275-5405; regarding their property tax deductions, tax bill calculations, and change of address to the Auditor’s Office at 812-275-3111, or regarding payment for their property tax bill to the Treasurer’s Office at 812-275-2431. Tax payment toll-free number: 1-888-654-3143 (property number required, and a fee applies). Tax payment website: https://lawrencecounty.egovpayments.com (Fee applies). Please do not call other offices if you do not get an answer when you call the office. The office has only two permanent employees, and sometimes only one person if someone is out on leave or vacation. Just keep calling back. If officials are on the phone with others, it may sound like it is ringing on your end, but the employee is on the phone with others or at the counter waiting on customers.
You will also have the option of using the payment drop box, which will be located outside the Treasurer’s office door. Remember that if you choose to come to the office, you will need to go through the security screening. If you choose to use the drop box option, please place your payment coupon along with your
payment in an envelope, along with your contact information in case officials need to contact you. If you drop off or mail your tax payment and would like a paid receipt, then insert a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment, and officials will mail it back to you.
For those choosing to submit payments via mail, please be advised that all payments must be postmarked on or before May 11. To ensure your payment is recorded as on time, we strongly recommend taking your envelope directly to a post office counter to request a hand-stamped postmark.
This precaution is necessary because a significant volume of mail is currently arriving at our office either without postmarks or with delayed postmarking from regional processing centers in Indianapolis. Please note that any payments received after May 11 that lack a valid postmark dated on or before the deadline will unfortunately be considered late.
As a reminder, the office will be closed to the public from May 12th to May 25th to process all on-time mail payments. We will reopen on May 27th. You may still call the office during this time if you have any questions.
