BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market (BCFM) returns this Saturday, offering residents a vibrant celebration of local agriculture, artisanal crafts, and community engagement. Operating rain or shine, the market continues its 40-year tradition of connecting Southern Indiana residents with the farmers and creators who define the region’s flavor.

Among the diverse array of vendors this season is Julie Teague, owner of Littlest Bird Farm. After four decades in the technology sector, Teague transitioned to floriculture in 2023. Her stall features pesticide-free, seasonal cut flowers, herbs, and dried floral wreaths.
“Having grown up in a family of gardeners, she knows firsthand the joy that beautiful flowers can bring,” the market noted in a recent highlights release.

Joining the newcomers are market staples like Melvin Reeves of Morningside Farms. A familiar face at the BCFM for years, Reeves is currently showcasing seasonal kohlrabi. A member of the cabbage family, kohlrabi is known for its mild, broccoli-stem-like sweetness and can be found in both green and purple varieties at the Morningside booth.
Live Performance: Nick Dittmeier & The Sawdusters

To officially kick off the 2026 season, Southern Indiana native Nick Dittmeier will take the BCFM Circular Stage. Accompanied by his band, The Sawdusters, Dittmeier is known for gritty, storytelling-driven Americana that reflects life in the Midwest and South.
The band will perform two distinct sets at 8:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Community Outreach: “Mayor’s Team at the Table”
The market also serves as a hub for civic engagement through the “Mayor’s Team at the Table” program. This initiative allows citizens to speak directly with city leadership in an informal setting.

This Saturday, David Hittle, Director of Planning and Transportation for the City of Bloomington, will be available at the market from 10:00 a.m. to Noon to greet the public and answer questions regarding city infrastructure and transit projects.
