MITCHELL – Families in Lawrence County are invited to trade their Sunday best for neon and glow sticks as the Burris Hatfield PTO hosts its highly anticipated 2026 Family Formal.
This year’s theme, “Ready, Set, Glow,” promises an immersive, glow-in-the-dark experience designed to bring the community together for an evening of music, dancing, and high-energy fun.

Dancing for a Cause
While the neon lights and live DJ are sure to be a hit with the kids, the event serves a vital purpose for local education. The Burris Hatfield PTO is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of students in the Mitchell Community Schools system.
Proceeds from the formal go directly toward a major goal: funding 100% of field trip costs for every student at Burris and Hatfield Elementary Schools. By attending the dance, community members are ensuring that over 700 local students can enjoy educational experiences outside the classroom without the burden of cost on their families.
“This event is about more than just a dance; it’s about making sure every single child at our schools has the opportunity to explore and learn through field trips,” the PTO shared in a statement.
Tickets are currently available for purchase online. Because this is a fundraiser for a registered non-profit, the PTO is encouraging early registration to help reach its funding goals for the upcoming school year.
