BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Commissioners moved forward with two key resolutions during their Tuesday morning session, focusing on inter-agency cooperation and enhanced security for county facilities.

The meeting, held at the courthouse, addressed a new partnership with the local solid waste district and an investment in modernizing entryway safety for county employees and the public.
In a move to streamline local resources, the commissioners passed an inter-local cooperation agreement with Lawrence County Solid Waste. Under the terms of the deal, the county will loan its Bandit 250 wood chipper to the Solid Waste department for departmental use.
While Solid Waste will utilize the machinery for its operations, the agreement stipulates that Lawrence County will remain responsible for all standard maintenance and mechanical upkeep of the chipper. Officials noted that sharing existing equipment between departments helps maximize the value of county-owned assets.
The commissioners also turned their attention to public safety, approving a contract with HICOM Inc. to bolster security at the Lawrence County Courthouse and the Courthouse Annex.
The project involves the installation of an Aiphone camera system, specifically designed to monitor outside door security. The new technology will allow staff to verify individuals before they enter the buildings, providing a critical layer of protection for both historical structures. HICOM Inc. will install the cameras, wiring, and specialized insulation at a total cost of $3,193.50.
