BEDFORD — The familiar gold-and-red goose logo of Wawa is officially landing in Lawrence County. Construction is ramping up at the intersection of Fifth Street and State Road 37, with company officials confirming that the highly anticipated convenience store and gas station is on track to open its doors this fall.

While Wawa is a household name in Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic, its rapid push into the Midwest is part of a massive multi-year investment in the Hoosier State
The new Bedford site is situated at one of the city’s busiest transit points. According to a company spokesperson, each new Wawa represents a significant economic footprint:
- Investment: More than $7.5 million per store.
- Construction Impact: Approximately 140 contractors and local partners are employed during the build phase.
- Permanent Jobs: Once operational, the store will employ an average of 35 associates, offering both full- and part-time positions with competitive benefits.
Bedford is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. After breaking ground on its first Indiana locations in 2025, including sites in Daleville, Brownsburg, Noblesville, and Clarksville. Wawa has no plans of slowing down.
Over the next five to eight years, the company intends to open 8 to 13 stores per year across Indiana. The long-term goal is to establish a network of more than 70 stores statewide, effectively becoming a staple of the Indiana landscape alongside competitors like Casey’s and Speedway.

For locals unfamiliar with the “Wawa cult following,” the store is famous for more than just fuel. The chain is frequently ranked among the best in the nation for its food service, specifically:
- Built-to-Order Hoagies: Their signature sandwiches are ordered via touch-screen kiosks.
- Sizzli® Breakfast Sandwiches: A fan-favorite for morning commuters.
- Freshly Brewed Coffee: Wawa serves over 195 million cups of proprietary-blend coffee annually.
- Custom Beverages: A full “motto” bar featuring hand-crafted smoothies, lattes, and macchiatos.

Community Impact
Beyond the hoagies, Wawa is known for its Wawa Foundation, which focuses on community health, hunger relief, and supporting local heroes. Upon opening, the Bedford location is expected to participate in “Check-Out Hunger” campaigns and support local food banks, a tradition at nearly all of its 1,000+ locations.

As the fall opening approaches, residents can expect to see more frequent activity at the 5th and State Road 37 site, including final paving and the installation of the iconic signage.
