WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a wide-ranging series of safety recalls this week, affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles across the United States. The alerts cover a spectrum of hazards ranging from critical engine component failures to faulty seat belt anchors and malfunctioning rearview cameras.
Leading the list is Ford Motor Company, which is facing multiple challenges across its truck and SUV lineups, followed by significant safety notices for Toyota, General Motors, and several luxury and recreational vehicle brands.
Ford and Lincoln: Fuel Pumps and Seat Belt Risks
Ford has issued two major recalls that impact both heavy-duty work trucks and popular family SUVs:
- Super Duty Fuel Pump Failure: Owners of 2020-2022 Ford F-250 through F-550 models, as well as some F-600 and F-750 trucks, are being warned of potential high-pressure fuel pump failures. A failing pump can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Improper Seat Belt Anchors: In a sprawling recall affecting 2020-2026 Ford Explorers and Lincoln Aviators, NHTSA reports that seat belt anchors may not be properly secured. In the event of a collision, these anchors could fail to restrain occupants.
- Tech Failures: The 2025 Explorer and Aviator, along with the 2024-2025 Lincoln Nautilus and Navigator, are also being recalled for a loss of rearview camera images and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.
Toyota and Lexus: Camera and Labeling Errors
Toyota and its luxury division, Lexus, have identified issues across a massive portion of their 2024–2026 fleet:
- Blind Spots: Multiple Lexus models (NX, RX, TX) from 2022–2026 may suffer from rearview camera images failing to display, violating federal safety standards.
- Loading Risks: A separate recall covers a vast array of 2024-2026 models—including the Grand Highlander, Land Cruiser, Tacoma, Tundra, and RAV4 Hybrid—due to incorrect “Load Carrying Capacity” labels. Overloading a vehicle based on incorrect labels can lead to tire failure or handling issues.
GM: Exploding Air Bag Inflator Endcaps
General Motors has issued a targeted recall for 2018-2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra (1500, 2500, and 3500) trucks. The concern involves the roof rail airbag inflator endcaps, which may detach. If the endcap detaches during deployment, it can become a projectile inside the cabin or prevent the airbag from inflating correctly.
Other Notable Recalls
- Kia: The 2027 Telluride Hybrid is under watch because power rear seats may trap an occupant.
- Hyundai: 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrids are being recalled for seat belt status indicator malfunctions.
- Luxury Brands: Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz all issued recalls this week for issues ranging from incorrect tire placards to insufficiently welded seat belt brackets.
- RV owners of Winnebago, Grand Design, and Keystone should check for wiring damage and entry steps that may accidentally extend while the vehicle is in motion.
