Mitchell Library launches 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading program

MITCHELL The Mitchell Community Public Library is inviting families to participate in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, an ongoing reading program for children from birth until they enter kindergarten. The free program is designed to help parents log reading milestones as their children progress toward the goal of reading 1,000 books.

Families who sign up at the library will receive a folder to track their reading, which includes a starter reading log, milestone stickers, and tips for parents. The first 50 participants to sign up will also receive a free bag. Children earn a prize for every 100 books read throughout the journey.

Those who reach the final goal of 1,000 books before starting kindergarten will have the opportunity to be a Junior Librarian. Library officials noted that reaching this milestone requires reading approximately three books a night for one year. Interested parents can visit the library today to register and receive their starting materials.
