INDIANA — Average gasoline prices in Indiana have seen a minor reprieve over the last week, falling 0.9 cents per gallon to an average of $3.47/g today. This stands in stark contrast to the national trend, where prices are climbing rapidly due to escalating geopolitical instability.

According to GasBuddy’s survey of 3,271 stations across the state, Hoosiers are currently paying 69.4 cents more than a month ago and 54.4 cents more than this time last year.
While the state average hovered near $3.47/g, the range between the lowest and highest prices remained vast. According to GasBuddy price reports:
- Cheapest Station: $2.85/g
- Most Expensive Station: $4.99/g
- Price Spread: $2.14/g
Regional Comparison
Price movement varied across neighboring metro areas, with some cities seeing significant hikes while others followed the state’s downward tick:

| Indianapolis, IN | $3.45/g | -5.3 cents |

National Outlook and Diesel Surge
The national average for gasoline has surged by 23.2 cents per gallon in the last week, reaching $3.68/g. This national average is up 80.0 cents from a month ago, fueled by a volatile global oil market.
Diesel drivers are feeling even more pressure, as the national average price of diesel jumped 34.0 cents in just one week to $4.95/g.
Expert Analysis: “A Double Headwind”
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, attributes the volatility to a combination of international conflict and seasonal shifts.

“Consumers continue to feel the sting of rising oil, gasoline, and diesel costs as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain elevated,” said De Haan. “Until we see a meaningful resumption of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, upward pressure on fuel prices is likely to persist.”
De Haan also noted that several regions are currently transitioning to more expensive summer gasoline blends, creating a “double headwind” that could push pump prices even higher in the coming weeks.
