INDIANA — K-12 educators planning outdoor excursions for the 2026-2027 school year can now apply for financial assistance to visit Indiana’s state parks and reservoirs.
The Indiana Natural Resources Foundation has officially opened applications for its Discover the Outdoors field trip grant program. This initiative is designed to help schools overcome financial barriers to outdoor education.

Each grant provides up to $500 to help cover essential trip expenses, including:
- Transportation costs.
- Educational program fees.
- Classroom materials related to the trip.
The funding can be utilized at various locations across the state, including 24 state parks, eight state-managed lakes, two state recreation areas, and two off-road state recreation areas.
Since its inception in 2013, the Discover the Outdoors program has awarded 355 grants, enabling more than 30,800 students to explore Indiana’s natural landscapes at a reduced cost.

“Spending time in our state parks is a favorite pastime and something that every student in Indiana should experience,” said Governor Mike Braun. “This grant helps teach students about Indiana’s natural heritage through our forests, lakes, and other unique natural areas, and I encourage schools to apply.”
How to Apply
The application window is currently open and will remain active through the spring.

“The Foundation’s mission is to celebrate and preserve Indiana’s natural legacy,” said Jody Kress, INRF executive director. “This grant gives children an adventure that showcases some of Indiana’s natural and cultural treasures and teaches the importance of protecting and preserving them for everyone to enjoy.”
The Application period is March 15 – April 30, 2026. Applications must be postmarked or emailed no later than April 30.
Educators will be notified of their award status by May 15, 2026.
Interested teachers can find more information and application materials through the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation website or the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
