MITCHELL — Parents of junior and senior high school students in Mitchell and Bedford are invited to attend a community education program focused on helping families navigate the challenges of raising children in an increasingly digital world.

The Lawrence County Local Coordinating Council and Hoosier Uplands will host a Parent Education Night titled “Parenting in the Digital World” on Thursday, April 2, at the Mitchell High School Auditorium.
The event will begin at 6 p.m., with a reception immediately following the presentation.
The program is open to parents of students attending Mitchell and Bedford North Lawrence junior and senior high schools. Organizers say the event is designed to give parents a better understanding of the online environment their children experience every day and provide practical guidance for monitoring and managing digital activity.
Topics scheduled for the presentation include the potential dangers associated with social media use among young people, an overview of popular platforms and websites used by children and teenagers, and a discussion of apps that parents may want to be especially aware of.
The program will also offer practical tips and strategies parents can use to help protect their children online and encourage responsible technology use.
Organizers say the event is part of an ongoing effort to support families and promote healthy development for youth across the community.
In addition to the parent education program, community members are also being invited to attend the 24th annual Youth First Benefit Auction, which will take place on Thursday, April 23, at Bally’s Evansville.
The event will be held at the Bally’s Casino Riverfront Event Center, 421 N.W. Riverside Drive, in Evansville. Doors open at 5 p.m. Central Time, and the program begins at 6 p.m.
The benefit auction is Youth First’s largest annual fundraiser and helps support the organization’s programs and services for young people. The event will feature an appetizer buffet, silent auction items, a live auction with paddle raising, and a program highlighting Youth First’s mission. Annual awards recognizing outstanding students and educators across the organization’s 14-county service area will also be presented.
A mobile bidding platform will open Monday, April 13, allowing participants to register for the event, preview auction items, and place virtual bids.
