PRINCETON — The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office has launched an internal investigation following reports that weapons may be missing from its evidence room.
The investigation centers on a criminal case dating back over a decade, specifically involving weapons taken into evidence on December 4, 2013. According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, the weapons were part of a criminal investigation.

The department opened the review after a former employee of the Sheriff’s Office shared allegations regarding the missing items on social media. The public nature of the concern prompted immediate action from department leadership.
“It has come to our attention at the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office that an allegation of missing weapons from the evidence room has been shared on social media by a former Sheriff’s Office employee,” the department confirmed in an official release.
To ensure transparency and a thorough accounting of the evidence, a Gibson County detective is now working with multiple outside entities, including the Gibson County Attorney’s Office, specifically Attorney Jason Spindler, and an undisclosed outside agency.
The goal of the joint effort is to determine exactly how many items—if any—are unaccounted for and to identify the circumstances that led to the potential discrepancy.
As of March 4, 2026, authorities have not confirmed the total number of weapons involved or the specific types of firearms that are being tracked. The Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation is ongoing and that no further statements will be released until the probe is concluded.
Residents with information regarding the case or the evidence in question are encouraged to contact the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office directly as the internal review proceeds.
