Women invited to explore outdoors during monthly hikes at Spring Mill State Park

MITCHELL — Women looking to explore the outdoors in a supportive group setting will have the opportunity to do so throughout 2026 during a new Monthly Women’s Hike series at Spring Mill State Park.

The guided hikes will take place on the second Sunday of each month at 4 p.m., beginning in January and continuing through December. Participants who complete hikes from January through September will finish the Spring Mill Hike Challenge, according to event information released by the park.

The series features a variety of trails and difficulty levels designed to accommodate hikers of different abilities.

Upcoming spring hikes include a 2-mile walk on the Mountain Bike Trail on March 8, meeting at the swimming pool parking lot, and a rugged 2.5-mile hike on Trail 3 on April 12, beginning at the Donaldson’s Cave parking lot.

A special Mother’s Day hike is planned for May 10 on Trails 4 and 7. The 2.5-mile route will begin at the Donaldson’s Cave parking lot and is described as an easy hike.

Summer hikes continue June 14 with a rugged 2-mile trek on Trail 4. On July 12, hikers will meet at the front of Spring Mill Inn for a 1-mile moderate hike on Trail 5. An additional moderate hike of 0.5 miles on Trail 1 is set for Aug. 9, also meeting at the inn.

The September hike, scheduled for Sept. 13, will begin at the Pioneer Village parking lot and include a 1-mile rugged route along Trail 4 and the Stagecoach Trail.

Fall events include a paved 5K hike on Oct. 11 around the park’s hike-and-bike trail, beginning at Spring Mill Inn. Additional 1-mile moderate hikes are scheduled for Nov. 8 on Trail 5 and Dec. 13 on Trails 1, 2, 4, and 5.
