DAVIESS COUNTY — In recognition of Presidents Day, the Purdue Extension of Daviess County is encouraging local youth to explore American history through a new 4-H project focused on the nation’s commanders in chief.

The project, titled “American Presidents,” invites young people of all ages to research and present information about any president in U.S. history. Organizers say the initiative is designed to help participants build research, critical thinking, and presentation skills while learning more about the individuals who have shaped the country.
Mini 4-H members are asked to create and exhibit an age-appropriate project centered on a president of their choice. Suggested formats include educational posters, notebooks, or displays highlighting a president’s birthplace, legacy, or lesser-known facts.
For 4-H club members in grades 3 through 12, the requirements are more extensive. Participants must submit a notebook accompanied by a poster or display intended to teach others about their selected president.
According to project guidelines, notebooks must include a title page, a fact sheet, a labeled map outlining the president’s birthplace, and a reference page. Members may also incorporate previous years’ work in the back of the notebook, provided prior title pages are included. The map component may feature additional information relevant to the chosen topic.
Extension officials say the project offers flexibility, allowing students to select any U.S. president and tailor their research to personal interests while meeting the outlined criteria.
Youth interested in participating can enroll through the 4-H Online system by selecting “County Projects: American Presidents.” For additional information or assistance, families may contact the Daviess County Extension Office at 812-254-8668.
