LAWRENCE CO. – Brad Bough has officially filed his candidacy for the District 1 seat for Lawrence County Commissioner.
For those who do not know me, please allow me to introduce myself. I am Brad Bough, a 1979 graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School.

Additionally, I am a Pro-Life Republican with an unwavering dedication to children’s safety, and I respectfully ask for the support and vote of my fellow Republicans in the primary election on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, for District 1 Lawrence County Commissioner.
If elected Commissioner, I will continue to be proactive and NOT reactive, which this WBIW article succinctly illustrates:Â https://www.wbiw.com/2024/10/16/st-vincent-school-zone-now-has-20-mph-speed-limit-signs/Â .
As promised in the article, there are now flashing yellow lights on state-controlled US-50/16th Street to alert motorists that they are entering the Parkview and BMS school zones. This was a lengthy task; however, it demonstrates that I can navigate the intricacies of state government to achieve positive results for Lawrence County.
Additionally, since December 2022, we have not had a maternity delivery service in our county. Routinely, Lawrence County’s fathers have to race dozens of miles to a neighboring county to get their expectant wives to a maternity delivery hospital. This is not only unacceptable but also dangerous. We are a rural county, and therefore, we must be proactive in seeking funding for maternity delivery services in our county. I believe proactively lobbying for funding dedicated to rural health, as stated in this WBIW article https://www.wbiw.com/2025/12/29/gov-braun-announces-207-million-federal-grant-to-launch-grow-cultivating-rural-health/, is a great first step toward returning maternity delivery services to Lawrence County.
If we are truly dedicated to supporting young families in Lawrence County, this is a must.
As for my current profession, I have served the Veterans of Lawrence County since January 1, 2013, as the Lawrence County Veterans Service Officer. In our office, we know the assistance we provide is essential for Lawrence County Veterans and their families. For example, from FY 2017 through FY 2023, the VA’s Gross Domestic Expenditures for Lawrence County Veterans and their families exceeded $ 200 Million, as reported in the Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics’ annual GDX reports.
In addition to my duties as the Lawrence County VSO, I am actively serving in the following positions:
- Bedford City Councilman since January 1, 2020
- Republican Precinct Committee Chairman Shawswick 7A
- Founder and member of the Lawrence County Christian Veterans (LCCV)
- Active Member, Bedford First Baptist Church, assisting the Children’s Ministry Team
- Bedford First Baptist Church Board of Trustees
- Vice President of the Lawrence County Historical Society and Museum
- Bedford Animal Control Board
- Board of Directors for the Men’s Warming Shelter
- Member of Lawrence County’s America 250/Simiquintenial Celebration Committee
- Greenhill Cemetery Board
Some of my past accomplishments include serving on Federal Active Duty as a Military Working Dog Handler in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. I was a Captain with the Indiana Department of Correction and retired to serve as an MPRI Subject Matter Expert under a DoD contract, mentoring and training the Afghan National Army in Detainee Operations at Pul-e-Charki Prison, Afghanistan.
I have also served as the Vice President of the Indiana County Veterans Service Officers Association, cohosted the Indiana History Project and the Veterans History Project with Lee Hutchinson. Also, I have served as a State Convention Delegate for Republican voters in Lawrence County on numerous occasions.
In closing, I thank you for your consideration, and may God continue to bless Lawrence County.
