BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council will offer a multi-week workforce development course this spring to introduce participants to local automotive careers and essential job skills.
The Introduction to Local Jobs and Skills: Automotive program will run from March 2 through March 19 at the North Lawrence Career Center. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Designed as an entry-level opportunity, the program will expose participants to several areas of the automotive and skilled trades fields. Week one will focus on an introduction to automotive technology, while week two will cover auto body fundamentals. Participants will also complete CPR/AED, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed certifications during the first two weeks.
“The Lawrence County Growth Council is excited to expand our Introduction to Local Jobs and Skills program to include Auto Tech and Auto Body in addition to Welding,” said Cathy Bullington, Director of Career Development with LCEGC, “We continually explore ways to provide training in areas that can lead to employment opportunities. The cooperation of the North Lawrence Career Center and their instructors makes it possible to offer these classes to the adult learners in our community.”
The third and final week will introduce welding skills and conclude with a graduation celebration scheduled for Thursday at 4 p.m.
Program organizers say the course is intended to help participants explore career pathways while gaining practical, workplace-relevant certifications. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their participation in the program.
Participants are expected to provide their own transportation, arrive on time for each session, and follow all safety procedures, including the use of provided personal protective equipment. Attendees may bring their own snacks and water.
