HUNTINGTON – At the request of the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department the Indiana State Police is investigating a death at the Huntington County Jail.
The preliminary investigation indicates an inmate was found unresponsive in their cell by jail staff this morning, Tuesday February 3, 2026, just after 7:00 a,m. The staff attempted life saving measures after finding them, but the effort was unsuccessful. The jail staff had just checked on the individual 24 minutes before being found unresponsive.
This investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled. The Huntington County Coroner will identify the deceased person after the autopsy is completed. At this point in the investigation, no foul play is suspected and no further information is available.
