Obituary: Wilma Swango

 November 27, 1937 – February 2, 2026

Wilma M. Swango, 88, of Springville, died at 2:59 a.m. on February 2, 2026, at West View Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born November 27, 1937, she was the daughter of Evett and Julia Parker. She married Warren Swango August 1955, and he preceded her in death.

Wilma loved God first and foremost. She enjoyed the talents he bestowed upon her. Talents such as music and art. Singing and playing her guitar for her Lord was one of her greatest pleasures, especially when her husband and family were included. She played and sang with the Evening Light Gospel Singers, Hallelujah Travelers, and the Swango Family.

Wilma was a very talented artist who created many wonderful paintings. She shared this talent by having classes at her studio/store, Ye Old Brick Shop.

Being very ambitious, Wilma decided a fund raiser was needed for Springville’s park, so she organized a festival. That festival is known as the Spring Creek Antique Tractor Show and is still being enjoyed every fall thanks to the hard work of others in the community.

Her dad was very proud the day she came home from high school and announced she was the prom queen for her junior year.

She worked at Sarkes Tarzian, RCA, Indiana Bell, and then retired from AT&T.

Wilma is survived by her daughters Pamela (David) Hawkins and Tracy (Tim) Baker, grandchildren Matthew (Ann Marie) Hawkins, Brandon (Melissa) Baker, Holly (Brooks) Arnold, and Jared (Safoora Moazam) Baker, great grandchildren Joshua, Juliana, and Anna Grace Hawkins, Corodon, Brynn, and Haytham Baker, Nathanael, Zac, Stephen, Kristen, and Michael Arnold, sister Brenda (Lowell) Flynn, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Wilma was preceded in death by brothers Ervin Parker and Bernard Parker, sisters Verla Skinner and Shirley Waggoner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jerry Eads officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.until the hour of service on Friday.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at West View Nursing and Rehabilitation.
