INDIANAPOLIS – Humane World for Animals, formally known as the Humane Society of the United States, will host a special event, Beagles and Bagels, during which local animal shelter and rescue leaders can connect with Indiana legislators in support of HB 1203, Sunny’s Research Adoption Bill.

Sunny is a beagle who was rescued from a now shuttered dog breeding facility in Cumberland, Virginia, in 2022, sparing her from a life in the animal testing industry. The bill would require research laboratories to offer dogs and cats for adoption into loving homes after experiments are concluded, if deemed healthy enough by the facility’s attending veterinarian. Sunny and another survivor from the breeding facility, which was operated by Indianapolis-based Envigo, will be present at Beagles and Bagels along with representatives from Humane Indiana in Munster and Humane Fort Wayne. The organizations adopted out 79 beagles rescued from the Virginia facility.
