Respected area physician Dr. Guy Bruce Waldo passes away at 69

BEDFORD — The Bloomington and Bedford communities are mourning the loss of Dr. Guy Bruce Waldo, 69, who passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Redcrest Hospice House.

A dedicated physician, devoted family man, and lifelong learner, Dr. Waldo leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion that spanned decades of medical practice in Southern Indiana.

Born in Indianapolis in 1956 to Guy Harold and Barbara Francis Waldo, Bruce was a 1974 graduate of Bedford High School. He followed his passion for medicine to Indiana University, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1982.

Dr. Waldo’s career was marked by a deep commitment to his community, often working side-by-side with family. His professional journey included practicing alongside his father at Bedford Regional Medical Center, serving patients at the Edgewood Clinic in Bedford. Dr. Waldo held leadership roles as Medical Director for Healthsource (Indianapolis) and Unity Physicians Group (Bloomington).

After years of dedicated service to his patients, Dr. Waldo retired in 2009.

Beyond his professional accolades, Dr. Waldo was known as a “cherished father and grandfather” who found his greatest happiness in the company of his family. He was a man of diverse interests—from coaching soccer and bird watching to embarking on family fishing trips in Florida.

An avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, he was also recognized for his keen intelligence and passion for history. Memorial services to celebrate the life of Dr. Waldo will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Cremation rites have been accorded, in accordance with his wishes. His family remembers him not just as a physician, but as a man who valued every moment spent with those he loved.
