ORLEANS – Orleans Fire Department officials say they are monitoring an approaching winter storm that is expected to impact the area and are urging residents to prepare now and use extra caution as conditions worsen.
The department encouraged people to avoid unnecessary travel during severe winter weather, and reminded drivers who must be on the roads to slow down and allow extra stopping distance.
Officials also advised residents to use heating devices safely, including keeping space heaters at least three feet away from anything combustible and following manufacturer guidelines for proper use.
The department recommended checking on elderly neighbors and others who may need assistance during the storm, noting that emergency response times could be affected if road conditions deteriorate. In an emergency, residents should dial 911.
