MITCHELL — A free community screening of the award-winning documentary The Addict’s Wake will be held Feb. 17 at the Mitchell Opera House, bringing attention to substance use disorder and its impact on Southern Indiana communities.
The FREE event is presented by Hoosier Uplands, Families Forever, and the Lawrence County System of Care and is open to the public. The screening begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer panel discussion.

The Addict’s Wake examines how Brown County, Indiana, confronts what many consider the nation’s most pressing public health crisis: substance use disorder. The documentary follows the community in the aftermath of a surge in overdose deaths, highlighting collective efforts to respond, recover, and push back against a destructive cycle affecting communities across the country.
Organizers say the screening is intended to raise awareness, encourage conversation, and provide a space for community members to engage with the issue and available supports.
Admission to the event is free. The Mitchell Opera House is located in downtown Mitchell.
