INDIANA – The Indiana State Police is seeking clergy members interested in serving as volunteer chaplains through its ISP Chaplain Program.
Volunteer chaplains support the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being of ISP personnel, retirees and their families. The program is part of the ISP Wellness Section and is designed to provide confidential care and a steady presence for troopers and staff during critical incidents, personal hardships and high-stress situations. Chaplains serve personnel of all faiths and belief systems and may be called on during emergencies, death notifications, family crises or other traumatic events.

Typical duties include being available for on-call support, providing confidential pastoral counseling, assisting with spiritual guidance and prayer when requested, and participating in ride-alongs, trainings, meetings and departmental events. Chaplains may also assist with Wellness Section initiatives and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) efforts when appropriate.
Applicants must be ordained clergy of a recognized denomination or local church and meet one of the listed experience requirements. Those qualifications include holding a Master of Divinity or an equivalent graduate degree in theology, psychology, sociology or philosophy; holding a bachelor’s degree in one of those fields with at least three years of full-time active ministry experience; or having a minimum of five years of full-time active ministry experience, subject to approval.
