LAWRENCE CO. — Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day has announced that the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association (ISA) is now accepting applications for its annual college scholarship program. This initiative, designed to foster the next generation of law enforcement professionals, will award approximately 40 scholarships to qualified students across the state for the 2026-2027 academic year.
In a boost to the program this year, many of the awards have been increased to $1,000, up from the previous $750 amount, reflecting the association’s commitment to supporting students amid rising educational costs.

“Investing in our youth is an investment in the future safety and integrity of our communities,” said Sheriff Day. “We encourage all local students who meet these criteria to take advantage of this opportunity to help offset the costs of their education.”
The scholarship is open to both high school seniors and current college students who are dedicated to a career in law enforcement. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Residency: Must be a legal resident of Indiana.
- Field of Study: Must be pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice or a related law enforcement field at an Indiana college or university.
- Enrollment: Must be enrolled as a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours).
- Membership: Applicants must be an active affiliate or associate member of the ISA, or the dependent child/grandchild of an active member.
- Note: If you are not currently a member, a membership application can be submitted alongside the scholarship application.
The selection committee looks for well-rounded candidates who demonstrate academic achievement and a clear vision for their future in public service. The application package requires:
- A completed, typed, or neatly printed application form.
- A short essay detailing your proposed course of study, why you chose this career path, and your personal goals.
- A recommendation letter or appraisal from a school official (principal, teacher, or professor).
